MARY Magazine’s Call for Submissions
MARY Magazine is in search of great work to publish! They’re sending out a last-minute call for poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art for their Winter Issue. Writers selected for standard publication are awarded $50. The NouVeau section, which is dedicated to unpublished, emerging writers, are not paid.
Deadline: December 1
There is no fee to submit.
MARY Magazine is the online arts journal sponsored by Saint Mary’s College of California’s MFA in Creative Writing program. Since 2002, MARY has published contemporary poetry, prose, and new media arts from a diverse group of established artists and talented emerging writers. MARY Magazine has conducted interviews with award-winning writers.
Student-run, MARY Magazine grants MFA candidates the opportunity to work on all aspects of a small-press literary journal, while publishing some of the Bay Area’s most prestigious writers and writing.

WLT at the Texas Book Festival
The Writers’ League of Texas will be at the Texas Book Festival this weekend. We will be located at booths 122 & 123 in the exhibits tent on Colorado between 12th and 13th streets.
Four Reasons Why You Should Stop by the WLT Booth:

Contest: American Short(er) Fiction
American Short Fiction loves short shorts! Its new contest highlights great work in shorter fiction–stories of 1,000 words or less.
First prize receives $500 and publication.
Second prize receives $250 and publication.
Deadline is May 1. Submissions accepted online via the ASF Submission Manager. For more, see the guidelines on the ASF Web site.

Short Fiction Contest
The deadline for Glimmer Train’s Very Short Fiction Award is Saturday, February 28. Prizes include:
- First place: $1,200, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, and 20 copies
- 2nd-place: $500 and possible publication
- 3rd-place: $300 and possible publication
Other details:
- Reading fee: $15 per story
- Open to all writers
- Stories not to exceed 3,000 words

2009 Manuscript Contest
The Writers’ League of Texas is now accepting entries for its annual manuscript contest for unpublished fiction, creative nonfiction, children’s, and young adult books.
Prize: The winner in each category meets individually with an agent or editor during the annual Writers’ League of Texas Agents & Editors Conference.

Amazon’s Breakthrough Novel Contest
The deadline for Amazon’s Breakthrough Novel Contest is February 8 (as in Sunday). Final judges include authors Sue Grafton and Sue Monk Kidd, and the winning book will be published by Penguin Group (USA). Here’s the link for the details.
